SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif .– Santa Cruz County transportation officials are holding a virtual meeting Thursday to seek comments on how $ 11.2 million in state and federal funding should be spent on improving roads, bicycles, pedestrians and public transportation in the county.

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transport Commission is charged as a state-mandated agency with selecting projects to receive transport funds and launched a call for projects this summer, receiving 19 applications for projects in the region. county.

A county staff report for Thursday’s meeting describes how the applications were assessed and invites comment on proposed projects.

Some of the largest projects recommended for funding include pedestrian and bicycle improvements in downtown Watsonville for $ 1.2 million, $ 1 million for pavement, bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Chestnut Street and $ 600,000 for Ocean Street, both in Santa Cruz, $ 1 million for improved bus transit, buffered bike lanes and other changes in the Soquel Avenue and Soquel Drive areas , and $ 1 million for two new METRO Santa Cruz buses.
