Grand Rapids launches online transportation resource


GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – A new social media transportation resource aims to help people navigate Grand Rapids’ range of transportation options throughout the year.

It launches this week, just before ArtPrize, when thousands of visitors are expected to descend into the city.

GR Transportation will host “dynamic information” intended to be useful to both visitors and residents, city officials said in a press release on Monday.

Those interested can search @OnTheGoGR on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Daily posts on mobility, public transport, parking, roads, public rights of way, safety messages and more on all three social channels will help keep the public informed and up to date on how to stay. move around Grand Rapids in a safe and efficient manner.

Scheduled safety and education messages with urgent news and updates by city staff from GR mobile services and communications make up the transport-related content.

“GR Transportation @OnTheGoGR is a one stop source for getting around Grand Rapids,” said Director of Communications David Green. “We plan to provide information on everything related to transportation – from electric scooters, bike sharing and other public transportation options to road closures and construction detours and more. This project helps achieve several of the city’s priorities included in our strategic plan, primarily those related to mobility, an engaged and connected community, and a safe community.

Green says future posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will also include topics like pedestrian and bicycle safety, how to report traffic light failures, bike lanes, parking and carpooling options, DASH routes. and more.
